Pulling Bobbin Thread to Top of Quilt | Recommended Tools: |
| This is the first thing you need to learn when quilting on a longarm machine. You would be amazed at how many people don't know this technique but should. Most don't even know what this procedure is called. The reason to pull the bobbin thread to the top of your quilt when starting or stopping is so that the thread tails are on the top of your quilt and you can trim them easily. There was this 80 year old lady that came to one of our quilt shows in Colorado and yelled at us because our Block RockiT Machine and Grace Frame were the worst thing ever. She explained to us that as she quilted on your Q'nique 14+, she purchased from a local dealer whom we shall not name, that her machine would get caught on the bobbin thread on the back of her quilt. No one had ever taught her how to pull a bobbin. She would crawl under her machine frame and try to clip the threads. She said she made the sewing machine dealer take back her Q'nique 14+ because it was such a bad machine. Wow! We showed her how to pull a bobbin and she just scratched her head. Silly but totally true. | Longarm Machine |
![]() | Clip your threads after taking about 4 or 5 stitches to keep them out of the way. It makes quilting so much easier. If you leave the tails on the back side of the quilt your machine might catch on it. |
